A’ja Wilson is using her second signature shoe to honor one of the most important figures in her basketball journey. The upcoming Nike A’Two “DS” pays tribute to Dawn Staley, Wilson’s former coach at South Carolina and one of the pioneering women to receive her own Nike signature basketball shoe.
The inspiration comes specifically from Staley’s Nike Zoom S5, with the A’Two adopting a clean white-and-black color scheme reminiscent of the original model. The connection becomes unmistakable on the tongue, where the “S5” logo directly references Staley’s signature line. Even the official “DS” nickname leaves little mystery as to whose initials are being celebrated.
Staley coached Wilson throughout her collegiate career at South Carolina before the eventual WNBA superstar became a Nike signature athlete herself. Now, more than two decades after Staley helped pave the way for women’s signature basketball footwear at Nike, one of her former players is carrying that history forward through a signature line of her own while steadily building a resume that may enshrine her as the G.O.A.T. of the women’s game.
