It’s “never not Suede” for the Big Cat, conveniently the title of their latest season showcase of their classic, no-frills silhouette. Given how the trainer remains at the forefront of the catalog, spun into Vibram-powered dress shoes, chunky wedge hybrids, and innumerable experimentations in the space between, it’s somewhat of a shock that we’re now getting the collision between favored shoe and favored collaborator, as A$AP Rocky issues his first take on the PUMA Suede.

Ever the tastemaker, of course the NYC rapper puts his own novel spin on the mainstay, unveiling the “PUMA Suede ‘94.” It makes good on its title by reaching for that era’s composition of the indoor icon. Given the overall simplistic hardware, it’s the subtler changes that replicate that, seen with stitching over the Sidestripe, a change to the general contours of that touch, and slight remodels of the panelling between.

In the palette, that manifests in faux-aged midsoles and washed suede uppers, a more tasteful application of the distortion and distressing that’s paced the Rocky x PUMA relationship thus far. A chunky dubrae, additionally reflective of the era, pairs with all-over branding on the insoles to finalize this backwards-facing issue.

The A$AP Rocky PUMA Suede 1994 hasn’t been officially announced by PUMA, but has already started appearing on retail channels across the globe; stores like Extra Butter already have these in stock stateside.
