Australia’s Up There has been on the rise for several years, thanks to some excellent collaborative releases with Asics and New Balance. This week, they are debuting their first work with adidas, launching a brand new model, the Melbourne.
adidas’ City Series terrace trainers emerged in the late 1970s and 1980s, designed as low-profile training shoes named after major European cities. Models like the Dublin, Hamburg, Berlin, and Manchester featured suede uppers, slim silhouettes, and gum soles that made them ideal for everyday wear. The range became deeply embedded in UK football terrace culture, where subtle adidas branding signaled authenticity and allegiance. Over time, City Series trainers evolved from functional sports shoes into cultural symbols of casual style. Regular reissues and anniversary releases have preserved their legacy, introducing new generations to one of adidas’ most influential and enduring footwear families.
This week, the City Series is gaining a new member, thanks to Australian retailer Up There. The store has frequently showcased their Aussie pride through special collaborative releases, like their New Balance 991v2 from last season, decked out in Aussie-inspired details. Their debut team-up with adidas gives them the opportunity to add Melbourne to the famous City Series, bringing Australia’s rich sporting history to the Three Stripes. The trainer pulls design details from a number of past adi releases, namely the Rome and Rod Laver models, both entrenched in Aussie history. The Melbourne’s debut comes in a crisp white mesh build, adding rich green stripes and eyestays, with an off-white suede accent to complete the look.
