Quick facts about the Travis Scott x Nike x Air Force 1
– Travis Scott and Nike join forces once again for three Air Force 1 ’07 colorways celebrating the release of GTA VI
– Though neither mock-ups nor product photography have come to light, these will likely draw on “Miami Vice” colors (as much of GTA VI’s promo has so far).
– All three pairs drop on November 19th for $130 each
GTA VI fever is touching every aspect of daily life. Maybe it’s in your workplace, as you and/or coworkers dig into the depths of your mind to trawl up a reason to miss work for launch day. It’s certainly in sports, as the Miami Heat have launched a partnership with the franchise, and absolutely in music, as hitmakers from SZA to Tame Impala to Justice pledge their talents to the soundtrack. The decade-long wait has finally crept onto our homepage as well, as Travis Scott and Nike plot three colorways of the Nike Air Force 1 ’07 coinciding with the release of Rockstar Games’ GTA VI.
Both Nike backend information and preliminary listings on partnering retailers point to three colorways of the Nike Air Force 1 ’07 dropping on November 19th, aligned with the release date of the long-awaited next entry in Rockstar Games’ open-world series. Palettes of “White/White/Fire Pink,” “Black/Black/Fire Pink,” and “Multicolor/Pale Ivory/Black/Bold Berry/Fire Pink” are confirmed.
Like the neon-soaked teasers and graphics that have come out of the Vice City-set game, this will likely be an interpretation of the glitz and glam of the Miami-inspired locale. Surely the usual smattering of Reverse Swooshes and Cactus Jack branding we’ve come to expect from any Travis Scott shoes will also be in tow.
Again, the Rockstar Games x Travis Scott x Nike Air Force 1s for GTA VI are all expected to drop on November 19th. A $130 retail price is confirmed for all three colorways.
Will the Travis Scott x Nike Air Force 1 “GTA VI” be hard to get?
In a word, yes. As with all Travis Scott releases, the three Nike Air Force 1 “GTA VI” will likely be limited in quantity. As one of the true household names on Nike’s roster, Scott’s releases are typically sought after by more than just core sneaker collectors; adding Rockstar Games’ monocultural entity into the mix, more than a decade in the making, will only make these even hotter of a commodity. Exactly how Nike will approach this release is currently unknown, but these will absolutely be tough to get your hands on.
A release through retail partners is confirmed, and we’ll likely see drops via TravisScott.com and Nike channels, though some of their past work hasn’t appeared on Nike SNKRS. Those retail partners are surely aware of how hotly contested these shoes will be, so expect raffle / draw strategies there.
What makes the Travis Scott x Nike Air Force 1 “GTA VI” different from past collabs?
Even the casual consumer should recognize that Nike x Travis Scott drops are a massive deal, commanding immediate sell-outs and sky-high resale prices. This has made Scott arguably the most important collabrator on the Nike roster. Further, this marks Nike’s first collaboration with Rockstar Games; coming at such a pivotal point in the latter’s history only adds to the anticipation.
Beyond the full-court-press strategy that Rockstar is taking to promote GTA VI, these Travis Scott Air Force 1 releases point toward a shift in strategy from the Swoosh’s end. The brand has shown increasing willingness to pair La Flame with additional collaborators, helping turn hyped releases into turbo-charged ones. Linking up with Hiroshi Fujiwara’s Fragment Design could’ve reasonably been written off as a cut-and-dry sequel effort, but his three-headed effort alongside tennis star Carlos Alcaraz, minting a full apparel collection, Air Force 1, and Zoom Vapor 12 tennis shoes, clearly demonstrated this new approach.
What does Travis Scott have to do with GTA VI?
The Houston rapper has long counted himself a fan of the Grand Theft Auto franchise, posting to Instagram in 2013 to celebrate the inclusion of his song “Upper Echelon” on the GTA V soundtrack. For the sequel, he’s gone from fan to a true partner, pledging his single “Hyena” to the GTA VI score and getting involved in the promo effort beyond that. Getting his chief corporate partner in Nike to add to that mix no doubt marks his most significant involvement, and immediately adds several red-hot sneaker releases to the calendar.
