It was about a year ago that the Nike Air Trainer Huarache reentered the public consciousness thanks to a Corteiz collaboration. Since then, the model’s retro run has taken an unconventional path, with most general-release styles landing first in Europe despite a far stronger cult following here in the U.S.

This “Velvet Brown” colorway is one we’ve had our eye on for a while. Official images first surfaced back in January and began hitting EU shops in March and April. Now several months later, a U.S. drop is finally confirmed for November 8th.

Designed by Tinker Hatfield with input from Eric Avar, the Air Trainer Huarache debuted in 1992 as a basketball sneaker. Like its running counterpart, the design draws inspiration from traditional Mexican huarache sandals and the snug, form-fitting feel of neoprene water-ski booties — complete with a foot-hugging nylon interior. This “Velvet Brown” colorway borrows cues from Nike ACG aesthetics, balancing earthy neutrals with a Smokey Blue color on the inner nylon.

The Nike Air Trainer Huarache “Velvet Brown/Smokey Blue” releases November 8th in the U.S., priced at $170. Worth noting: the pair has been selling below retail on aftermarket platforms for the past few months.
