We’ll spare you the full dissertation, but “weird” footwear has never been more in, particularly among younger consumers unafraid to take style risks. That appetite has found its way into sneaker design meetings, with every major brand bolstering its catalog with new and old silhouettes that slot neatly into the subversive genre.

The loafer-inspired Nike Air Max Dolce is a prime example, pulled back for a retro stint in what can only be described as Nike tossing a log on a fading sneaker-loafer trend. Following a Comme des Garçons collab and a handful of general releases comes a striking “Electric Blue” makeup for men. Basically the entire exterior takes the titular hue, while the inner lining and bottom platform arrive in black. Given the Dolce’s rather complicated construction, it’s possible Nike will stick with this same simple color blocking scheme all the way through its current run.
