Asics has invited a new collaborator to take on their popular GT-2160 this season, teaming up with Australia’s EARLS Collection to craft a new colorway inspired by their native lands and abalone shells.

The GT-2160 from Asics had a big year in 2023, returning for the first time since it debuted in 2011, and taking over the brand’s releases with a string of excellent in-line styles and a handful of popular collaborations. With Above the Clouds and Gallery Dept. on board with the silhouette, this week Australian brand EARLS Collection has unveiled their take on the runner. Taking inspiration from their native lands and culture, the look comes in a stunning color scheme inspired by abalone shells, locally known as Pāua. The shoe features an off-white mesh base, adding its overlays in dark brown suede, with a seaglass green accent for the heels, laces, and GEL cushioning in the soles. The insoles come with a marbled print pattern, with blue and green colors borrowed from the inside of an abalone shell.

The EARLS Collection x Asics GT-2160 has not been announced yet, but will release sometime in early 2024, according to the Australian brand. Dressed in “abalone” shades of green and brown, pairs will likely be available first from EARLS followed by a wider release from Asics, and possibly select retailers. UPDATE 2/9/24: Earls Collection has announced that their new Asics GT-2160 will release initially on February 11th, 2024, exclusively through their website. Pairs will be available via a raffle, and will see a wider release from select retailers on February 23rd.
