Sashiko Gals & New Balance Team Up for a $2,000+ 1300JP Benefitting Charity

The New Balance 1300JP is making a special appearance this season, though not in its usual format. Instead, Japan’s Sashiko Gals have remixed a very limited run of the shoe, releasing exclusively in Japan for a whopping $2,330.

New Balance’s Made in Japan 1300 sneakers represent some of the brand’s most coveted, artisanal creations. Produced in limited numbers by master craftsmen at M.Lab in Tokyo, these editions elevate the iconic 1300 with meticulous hand-sewn construction, premium materials, and uniquely Japanese attention to detail. The lineage builds on the 1300’s heritage dating back to 1985, but the Japan-made versions push the model into luxury territory, often featuring custom dyes, special leathers, and extremely low production runs. Over time, these releases have become symbols of New Balance’s highest craftsmanship and global design influence.

New Balance’s latest offering of the 1300JP takes the craftsmanship aspect to an entirely new level. The Boston brand has tapped the Sashiko Gals, a group of Japanese woman who specialize in sashiko repair methods, to create a limited run of custom 1300 pairs. The pairs are being made exclusively for a charitable donation, auctioned off in NB’s Harajuku store, with all proceeds being donated to MOONSHOT Co., an organization that helps develop sashiko artists platforms their work. Because of the nature of the artistry involved and the time it takes to customize the shoes, each pair will be sold via raffle with an entry costing about $2,330. The release will be accompanied by a single size run of matching one-of-one denim jackets, which will be sold for about $6,300.
