Pokémon is turning thirty years old in 2026, and is lining up a huge range of collaborative projects to celebrate. Today, we have an early look at adidas’ offerings, which includes a “Mewtwo” edition ZX 8000, coming in September.

Pokémon has been a childhood staple of many children over the last thirty years, whether your first game was on the GameBoy Color or the Switch 2. As of 2025, the Pokémon Company has released over 120 different games featuring their ever-growing roster of ‘mons, and issued hundreds of different series of the trading card game. In 2026, the brand will celebrate its thirtieth anniversary, marking three decades of global popularity. Pokémon has expanded into all kinds of collaborative products over the last decade, and they have plenty of special projects in store for the celebratory year.

This week, we have our first look at one of their sneaker offerings coming for the anniversary, in partnership with adidas. This is not the first time the two have worked together, but the new collection seems to lean more towards the Dragon Ball Z format, with detailed sneakers depicting legendary Pokémon. First up is “Mewtwo”, who gets a pair of the ZX 8000 as his signature model. The pair comes in shades of pale pink like his body, with dark purple accents for his belly and tail. The outer walls add a leather panel depicting his eyes, while the heel counters are molded to mimic the shape of his ears. The inner walls feature a subtle outline of the legendary Pokémon Mew, while a Master Ball lace jewel completes the look.

POKEMON X ADIDAS ZX 8000 “MEWTWO” RELEASE INFORMATION

The upcoming 30th anniversary sneaker collection from Pokemon and adidas has not been officially announced yet, and is currently expected to release in September 2026. The “Mewtwo” edition ZX 8000 is the first model from the project to surface, and boasts some fun details like a molded heel to mimic Mewtwo’s ears. Pairs will likely be available from adidas and select retailers.
