Nike is building on their history of Puerto Rico-themed releases again this month, continuing their annual tradition of a special sneaker release for the Puerto Rican Day Parade in NYC. This year the Shox R4 gets the spotlight, with a colorway inspired by the original PR flag.

Nike has never been one to shy away from special themed sneaker releases, with their archives filled with pairs released for holidays big & small over the decades. In recent years, they have ramped up their annual offering for the Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York City, locking in for limited-edition colorways that celebrate the island nation’s heritage. They have made missteps along the way, namely the cancelled Air Force 1 in 2020, but those mistakes seem to have taught them a valuable lesson is approaching these projects with purpose, instead of surface-level details.

Their latest “Puerto Rico” style is set to arrive this week, and takes inspiration from an original version of the PR flag, drafted by exiles of the island in NYC in 1895. The Shox R4 is the canvas for this release, cast in a soft Glacier Blue shade, with bold red accents and metallic silver Shox tech under the heels. The embroidered details come in white, using the red accent to act as a shadow, giving each added detail a 3D look.

Nike’s next release celebrating the culture and history of Puerto Rico is scheduled to release this week, on June 5th, 2026. The release falls a week ahead of the Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York City, with retailers Takout and Up NYC currently the only two shops that will release this special pair. The retro runner comes in a Glacier Blue shade with bright red accents, and will come with a price tag of $155.
