Nike’s Shoe Dog Mascot Mimics The Polo Bear

The Polo Bear has some new competition. A new piece of Nike kids apparel has surfaced featuring an unexpected character: a small terrier standing upright with its hands tucked into its pockets, dressed head-to-toe in Nike. The pup wears a “Just Do It” baseball cap, Swoosh hoodie, sweatpants, and a pair of Air Force 1s in the same manner as Ralph Lauren’s mascot.

Ralph Lauren has spent decades dressing its iconic Polo Bear in miniature versions of the brand’s wardrobe, turning the teddy bear into a recognizable piece of fashion iconography. The bear itself bears importance to the brand’s history dating back to the early 1900s, but since its debut in 1991, the teddy bear dripped out in ‘lo has become one of the most important symbols in streetwear. It’s up there with the Supreme box logo and A Bathing Ape’s gorilla.

Nike’s version is admittedly cute at first, but it’s easy to read this as a copy as much as an homage because it’s completely unlike anything Nike has done in the past. The graphic has appeared on an upcoming kids hoodie for Holiday 2026, so its unclear if this is a one-off or if Nike has plans to make the “Shoe Dog” part of a bigger series and rotate wardrobe much like the Polo Bear has for decades.

These could also be connected to a meme that caught fire in late 2023; shared by artist Phillip Banks, his illustration of a dog wearing a great sweater, jeans, and sneakers with his hands and pockets went viral with a “Just a chill guy” tagline. However, the dog seen in these Nike hoodies doesn’t seem to be flashing any smirk, but rather emotionless like the Polo Bear.

We’ll be keeping an eye out for this new dog mascot on upcoming apparel and footwear, so stay tuned.
