Nike’s Patent Leather Air Force 1 in “Pink Cooler” Drops Next Week

Nike is ramping up releases of patent leather Air Force 1s, a styling that originated on the model in the early 2000s. This week, the Swoosh has added an eye-catching “Pink Cooler” color scheme to their release schedule, coming next week.

Nike began experimenting with patent leather on the Air Force 1 in the early 2000s. At the time, the AF1 had firmly made the transition off-court into a lifestyle model, and the Swoosh was looking for new ways to spruce up the iconic street sneaker. They opted for patent leather to give the model a glossy, eye-catching finish, and it worked like a charm. Pairs like the 2002 Easter releases quickly ascended to the heights of a grail, and the Swoosh went all in. In recent years, the shiny leather has been notably absent from their AF1 releases, but that tide seems to be turning with upcoming pairs like the “Topaz Gold” and “Lebron” looks.

This week, Nike has added another patent leather-clad style of the Air Force to their release calendar, and this one is dropping next week. The new look comes in a vibrant color scheme, a bit of an oddity for a December release, but they are sure to stand out among Fall and Winter tones. The new style comes in a “Pink Cooler” based color scheme, which makes up the light pink base layer of the shoe. The patent overlay panels come in a darker Mulberry Rose shade of pink, adding black Swooshes and hyper blue laces to round out the colors. Finally, a neon pink midsole rests underneath.
