If you’re a regular on Sneaker News, we can safely assume you’re hip to the strengths of Air Max. A movement that’s gone on to define streetwear around the globe, its initial tech innovation was a watershed moment in the Nike story — something that’s had ripples throughout their brand history ever since its 1970s invention.
While Air Max has been a staple choice during the warmer months for decades, Nike has decided in the past couple of decades that they’re not content with just one half of the calendar. They’ve pushed and pushed to make sure that their tentpole stays in the rotation even as the weather turns — see the Air Max Goadome, recently returning to shelves, or winterized retoolings like the Air Max 90 GORE-Tex or Air Max 95 Sneakerboot.
With all that table-setting out of the way, it shouldn’t be a shock that Beaverton has the same idea with the latest chapter of Air Max. Our newswire has been filled to the brim with the phrase “Dynamic Air” since the looks at the Dn first began trickling out in early 2024. Though it’s been usurped by the Dn8 as the family’s freshest face, the four-chamber silhouette is about to prove it has plenty of tricks still up its sleeve. As its younger sibling moves through a stacked slate of collaborations, the silhouette now picks up an off-season gig with the Nike Air Max Dn Roam.
Scroll ahead to discover all the tools Nike utilized to turn the Air Max Dn from an everyday lifestyle option into an all-conditions tank, and how they’re supporting that footwear option with a range of all-new Tech Fleece Boreas apparel. The Air Max Dn Roam is available now on Nike.com in three colorways and extended men’s sizing, retailing for $190.

DIVING DEEPER

Especially given the timing here, our dedicated readership will know that upgrades in materials have helped brands reorient their staple shoes for harsher conditions. If there’s one thing you take from this piece, understand that the Nike Air Max Dn Roam goes far beyond those bounds.
You’ll recognize the Dynamic Air chambers in the heel and the overall shape of the silhouette, but Beaverton designers went over nearly everything in between with a fine-tooth comb, beginning with the double-layer upper. A new protective shroud creates an inner/outer split, keeping winter perspiration out and keeping the comfort-forward interiors of the Dn intact beneath. Ripstop fabrics and a rubberized toe cap continue that concept, able to hold up to the extra wear and tear that comes with the coldest months of the year.
Flip the shoe over to see the newly introduced Storm Tread, maintaining the overall pattern from the parent model but adding extended lugs and deeper grooves to handle slippery surfaces. Finally, pull tabs on the tongue and heel allow for easy-on, easy-off ability and connect favorably to the ACG products that outdoorsy Nike devotees have depended on since the ’90s.
Given our name, we’re of course focused on the footwear side, but the Swoosh is firing on all cylinders with its new winter range. The Nike Tech Boreas line showcases a ton of conceptual overlap with those remodeled kicks: injecting new purpose and energy into a vertical that fans have sworn by.
Utilizing the sectioned aesthetics that have made their Tech Fleece a staple of cold-weather fits for years now, the Boreas line is even harder than your usual sweatsuits for chilly conditions, accomplished with layers of Therma-Fit fabric and fleece to keep you insulated. A built-in gaiter and oversized hood only further bolster its toughness.
Even better, the Tech Boreas’ three colorways line up perfectly with the Dn Roams. Pair “Desert Khaki” with “College Grey,” “Thunder Blue” with “Cargo Khaki,” or “Triple Black” from head to toe for a perfect fit straight out of the box. Or, mix and match between those options to carry the same statement flair you bring to the summer months into the street, even as the days grow shorter.
