Nike Mixes Leather Textures for a $600 Made in Italy Air Force 1

Nike has experimented with special Made in Italy sneakers over the years, particularly with the original run of the Air Jordan 2. This year, the Air Force 1 is getting this special treatment, dropping in two tonal colors for this premium edition.

Nike’s Made in Italy sneakers trace back to the late 1990s and early 2000s when the brand began producing premium, European-manufactured editions as part of its Nike International and Nike Premium lines. These Italian-made pairs stood apart from regular releases through luxury materials, refined construction, and limited runs, often on lifestyle-leaning silhouettes like the Air Max 1, Air Jordan 2, and various runners. These collectible versions of iconic sneakers have helped the Swoosh cement their ability to merge sport heritage with artisanal quality.

This week, the Air Force 1 has surfaced in a fresh take with a Made in Italy tag attached. The premium new take on the sneaker brings some interesting design choices to the iconic silhouette, mostly through materials. The upper is reconstructed to be nearly seamless, but manages to blend three different leather finishes across one shoe. The toe and forefoot come with a polished, patent leather sheen, before transitioning to smooth leather at the midfoot. Around the heels, a crocodile leather pattern is added to round out the trifecta of leather styles. Swooshes are pressed into the sidewalls instead of sewn in. Two colors of the model are on the way, a triple black edition as well as a tonal College Grey style, and each color is said to be limited to just 850 pairs worldwide.
