Ken Griffey Jr. owns one of the deepest and most widely-known signature lines in baseball history, yet Nike has stayed almost entirely fixated on his first signature model in recent years. Following a handful of Air Griffey Max 1 “Freshwater” restocks comes an all-new look loaded with intrigue, pairing Seattle Mariners colors with a few curveballs.

Close-up shots reveal intricate lace embroidery on the white portion of the upper, a notable and somewhat puzzling break from the model’s usual plain leather underlay. Midnight Navy covers the rest of the major upper elements, while teal hits on the Swoosh border and midsole accents lock in the Mariners tie-in. Team Gold steps in on the Swoosh, laces, lace loops, and 24 numbering to break things up.

Given we’re less than a month from the Midsummer Classic, our first instinct is that these are probably tied to MLB All-Star Weekend’s HBCU Swingman Classic, the event Griffey himself founded, especially since its participants wear gold-accented navy and powder blue jerseys.
