Nike’s Air Superfly was resurrected from their archives this year, after its debut twenty-five years ago. Next year, the Superfly will get a premium upgrade, featuring an ostrich leather construction and a tonal green color scheme.

The Nike Air Superfly debuted in 2000 as a women’s-specific performance runner designed to prioritize speed, fit, and minimal weight. It was one of Nike’s earliest shoes built entirely around female athletes, using data-driven research rather than scaled-down men’s models. The Superfly featured a low-profile silhouette, breathable mesh upper, and responsive Air cushioning tuned for a lighter, faster ride. Its sleek design emphasized efficiency and movement, reflecting Nike’s push toward purpose-built innovation. Though short-lived, the Air Superfly got a first-ever retro release in 2025, which will carry into 2026 with new styles.

The retro versions of Nike’s Air Superfly released this year have been repurposed as lifestyle sneakers. The choice to revive this lesser-known model was likely influenced by the ultra slim sneaker trend that began last year, and the Superfly is a perfect fit. Nike still has plans for the Superfly in 2026, including this premium edition of the runner, which features a new (probably fake) ostrich leather upper. The spotted material comes in a rich Fir green shade, and the rest of the shoe is also doused in the smooth tone.
