New Balance’s 1890 silhouette is on a roll this Summer, thanks to some high-profile collaborations and special releases. Soon, the Boston brand will introduce the 1890P variant, sporting a more durable forefoot.

The 1890 is the latest in a series of retro-inspired lifestyle runners from New Balance. The model got its start early this year through a collaboration with JoeFreshGoods, and has gone on to receive limited-edition colors from Action Bronson and JJJJound. Following in the footsteps of its predecessors, like the 2002 and 1906, the sleek runner has released in a number of variations as well, including a wild moccasin-inspired take. This week, we have an early look at a new 1890P version, which does not change the overall silhouette of the shoe, but makes them a little more sturdy by replacing the outer forefoot overlay with a molded piece of plastic. Colorways come in either a red/pink combination or a blue/purple build, reminiscent of JFG’s tonal red & blue pack for the 990v6. Both pairs also apply a leather underlay around the heel for further support.

NEW BALANCE 1890P RELEASE INFORMATION

New Balance has yet to make an official announcement regarding their latest variation on the 1890 silhouette, subtitled P for the new armored forefoot. Pairs are expected to arrive soon in late Summer 2026, dressed in either pink/red or fairweather/blue combinations. Both pairs feature a molded plastic shield around the outer toes in place of welded tape overlays. Pricing is currently unknown, but expect these to be available from both NB and select retailers.
