New Balance’s 2010 model is sticking around for more special releases in 2026. This week, Korean retailer Khakis is dropping their SMU of the new-ish runner, a clean brown and navy blue style of the silhouette dubbed “Day Tour”.

Special Make Up (SMU) styles have played a key role in New Balance’s retail strategy for decades, allowing select partners to develop exclusive colorways and material executions tailored to their markets. Emerging in the 1990s through specialty running stores, SMUs helped boutiques differentiate core silhouettes like the New Balance 574 and New Balance 990 without altering performance tooling. The SMU program is how Ronnie Fieg got his start in sneaker design, while working for David Z in NYC. Over time, the program expanded globally, empowering retailers to reflect local culture and storytelling.

This week, Korean retailer Khakis is the latest to join New Balance’s historic SMU program. The store, which focuses on modern aesthetics and traditional craftsmanship, has dubbed their take on the 2010 the “Day Tour”, perfect for kicking around the city on a sunny afternoon. The model features a dark grey mesh base, using brown pigskin suede for the overlays. Dark navy blue accents appear on the tongues, heels, and laces, with red NB branding to complete the look.

The Korean retailer Khakis is the latest brand to issue an SMU colorway of the New Balance 2010, releasing tomorrow, February 20th, 2026. The smooth brown, grey, and blue “Day Tour” style of the runner is unfortunately a Korean exclusive, releasing from both Khakis and other Korean retailers. Good luck getting a pair stateside.
