In 1998, Michael Jordan played his final game at Madison Square Garden, one of the biggest stages in professional basketball. Jordan Brand will honor that special game with a “Last Dance at the Garden” Air Jordan 1 Low, coming this Fall.
Michael Jordan’s professional career if filled with iconic moments from the Bulls legend, many of which have been immortalized in sneaker form by Nike and Jordan Brand over the past forty-plus years. The “Last Shot” 14s and “Flu Game” 12s are some of the most recognizable amongst other, and this year the Jumpman is adding another entry in the ‘moments’-themed series. The next entry will celebrate MJ’s final game at New York City’s Madison Square Garden, the home of the Knicks. That game fell on March 8th, 1998, and saw Mike lead the Bulls to a narrow 112-108 victory with a season-high 42 points.
In that memorable game, Mike wore an original “Chicago” pair of the Air Jordan 1, despite being on his thirteenth signature shoe with Nike at that point. The shoes were undoubtedly old and a full size too small for Mike, but he continue to wear them, saying that he was “playing so well” and refused to swap out. The release highlighting that game, dubbed “Last Dance at the Garden” brings an elevated twist to the Chicago Air Jordan 1 Low. The look features a white full-grain leather for the base layer, adding the shoe’s overlays in a jacquard textile, mixing a red floral pattern over a black backdrop. Swooshes come in black leather with a metallic gold backing, with the gold theme repeated for the lower metal eyelets and Air Jordan wings branding on the heels. Just below the Nike Air tag on the tongues is a loop of blue and orange webbing, a nod to the Knicks who call MSG home.
