Jordan Brand’s retro releases of their iconic mainline models are often limited to simple color schemes. However, it turns out JB experimented with something unique back in 2023, a special pair of the Air Jordan 3 inspired by Nike’s ACG brand.

The most iconic pairs from Jordan Brand are almost entirely original colorways from the early models of Michael’s playing career. Jordans 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6 are the most sought after, and the brand regularly reissues signature colorways introduced with each shoe. Over the years, Jordan Brand has opened up their options for collaborators to bring their own unique vision to these shoes, but we rarely see the brand take it upon themselves to deliver something entirely new and special. However, this week we have a look at a 2023 sample of the Air Jordan 3, which blends the legendary silhouette with colors inspired by Nike’s ACG outdoor line.

The Air Jordan 3 “AC3” sample surfaced this week in what appears to be a fully fleshed out package. The shoe appears in these photos sporting a special hangtag unique to this style, as well as multiple lace options attached, meaning JB got fairly deep into the sampling process before seemingly shelving the project. The shoe is very directly inspired by Nike ACG, even featuring the sub-label’s Lungs logo on the insoles with a Jumpman and AC3 branding, an incredible cross-promotion between Nike and Jordan. Outdoor-ready elements like ripstop accents are present in the look, as well as bold pink and yellow tones for a high-visibility palette.

Unfortunately, Jordan Brand seemingly did not move forward with this special release of the Air Jordan 3, despite the shoe’s inclusion of hangtags and extra laces in the photos below. This is one of the most unique takes on an iconic Jordan model in a while, and we hope to see them change their tune and produce these pairs for the public in the future. Instead, these will remain an incredible sample for the time being.
