The masters of minimalism at JJJJound have taken to Instagram with their latest New Balance collaboration, the Montreal design studio bringing its signature “Mushroom” colorway to the New Balance 740 retro runner.

JJJJound’s “Mushroom” formula, a light brown foundation paired with black “N” logos, has been deployed across the brand’s New Balance portfolio time and again, appearing on the 990v3, 993, 991v1, and most recently the 990v4. This marks the first time the colorway has landed on a non-Made in USA or Made in England model, a notable branching out as the partnership begins tapping a more accessible price point.

The New Balance 740 is a retro runner from the 2010s that New Balance brought back as a cost-conscious addition to its modern lifestyle lineup, sitting alongside the 530 and 204L in the $100-plus range. JJJJound’s take lands on the 740N, a no-sew variant distinguished by a tight-knit mesh foundation and slim synthetic overlays. JJJJound branding lands on the lateral heel, while red accents hit the tongue, lace loops, and ABZORB cushioning callout on the midsole.
