First Look At the Union LA x Nike Field General
Update: A first look at the forthcoming Union LA x Nike Field General has been revealed, and it looks almost nothing like the 1982 football cleat that inspired it. Shown in photos from sneaker leaker @kicksdong, the revamped design offers a much more lifestyle-ready ethos, like a vintage turf trainer that's simultaneously stripped back to its core and bolstered with layered detailing.The only details from the OG Field General — initially designed for and worn by NFL quarterbacks like Archie Manning and Dan Fouts — that appear unchanged are the exposed mesh toeboxes, quarter panels and tongues plus the slim heel collar. Apart from that, everything else is an artistic interpretation, like an abstract painter putting their spin on a carefully drawn portrait. An earthy brown and tan color scheme cut with hits of pink is spread across heavily layered paneling on the upper, and other details include heel tabs, an external heel counter, Union LA tags, co-branded midsoles and an interesting top eyelet secured by a textile strip that rises from the heel. A waffle-style traction pattern on the outsole wouldn't look out of place on an '80s turf shoe, but it's a far cry from the original's spikes. The duo is on track to reunite during the summer of 2024 to deliver another collection that's centered around the Nike Field General.
