FDMTL Unveils Vans’ First Ever Tabi-Toed Authentic

Japanese label FDMTL has slowly infiltrated the sneaker world over the last few years, bringing their denim-focused design to the streets. This week, they showed off their upcoming FW26 collection with Vans, featuring a new Authentic Tabi sneaker.

FDMTL was established in 2005, then under the name Fundamental Agreement Luxury. The brand has been a denim-first label since its inception, with their production mainly located in Okayama, one of the most renowned denim-producing regions in the world. Their designs lean heavily into Japanese denim repair techniques, mainly boro patchwork and sashiko stitching, which they’ve translated into sneaker through projects with New Balance, and more recently, Vans. This week, the label held a runway show to showcase their Fall/Winter ’26 seasonal goods, and debuted their next collection with Vans during the event. Once again bringing denim to their sneakers, the star of the show was the Authentic Tabi, Vans’ first-ever use of the split toe design in footwear. The FDMTL version transforms the iconic skate shoe into a fashion statement piece, with at least three colors lined up for a release later this year; white denim, blue washed denim, and a patchwork sashiko design. Additionally, the Slip-On also made an appearance in its standard form, but sporting a Boro patchwork upper.

The project includes Vans’ first ever tabi editions of the iconic Authentic sneaker, dressed in FDMTL’s denim-laden styling, along with patchwork pairs of the Slip-On.
