No sneaker brand has been as aggressive in expanding its lifestyle category as New Balance, the Boston brand introducing multiple new models seemingly every season alongside myriad offshoots inspired by existing staples. The New Balance 1906 franchise is the best example, beginning with the 1906R and growing to include a whole slew of alternate tech runners (and one loafer) executed through different lenses.

Enter the New Balance 1906E, a new 1906 denomination distinguished by a flush mesh upper. Where the 1906R features a layered combination of mesh and synthetic leather, the 1906E opts for a fully engineered mesh upper with perforations on the forefoot and sides, the “overlays” appearing as graphics rather than separate panels. We’re immediately reminded of the 1906R no-sew, a style that curiously lacks its own unique letter designation, though that version leans more outdoorsy with a ripstop upper.

The New Balance 1906E is currently expected to release sometime in 2026 in multiple colorways, including the blue and maroon gradient styles shown below. Stay tuned for updates.
