We’ve been beating the drum on the rise of feminine aesthetics in the sneaker industry for several years at this point, to the point where it’s no longer notable as a “trend” and more accurate to describe it as one of the defining factors of today’s landscape. Despite how every company worth its salt has some representation in their catalog by now, it’s worth giving flowers to those who have kept up the crossover between womenswear and sportstyle even when it wasn’t the focus of every moodboard. Another collection from the Cecilie Bahnsen x ASICS partnership on the GEL-Kinetic FR provides an opportunity for exactly that.

As the Danish designer and ASICS hit the half-dozen mark in terms of shared collections, we might just be looking at their biggest step yet. The silhouette of choice is the GEL-Kinetic FR, a merger between the GEL-Frantic and Kinetic lines, evident with the stacked heel and low-profile forefoot. Of course, that creates an almost kitten heel platform for Bahnsen to work with, additionally adding flower-laden midfoot straps and toggle closures for a worlds-collide mash-up between utilitarian hardware and fashion-forward aesthetics.

Further honing that atmosphere are the colorways on tap. For the first, Y2K chrome combines with spring-ready trim, split between pink midsole trim and a light green outsole. On its counterpart, earthy brown and black patent leather make it a moody affair from jump, yet the aquatic tones centered on the rear midsole and the exposed GEL units bring sprightly energy into the mix.

The Cecilie Bahnsen x ASICS GEL-Kinetic FR drops on September 12th via ASICS channels and partnering retailers, clocking at €200 or equivalent.
