AWAKE NY and founder Angelo Baque have been in the headlines a lot lately, both for their radical AWAKE Jordan 5 collaboration and for tacitly debuting the Air Max 95 “Neon.” However, it’s not only in Beaverton where their influence is felt. One of the surprise breakouts in the tech runner space is the ASICS GEL-NYC, a silhouette that’s succeeded in general release colorways but first teed off with a major design assist from Baque.

Now settled into its own, the ASICS GEL-NYC looks to Spring with a pastel-painted “Rose Water” colorway. Though the retro principles of the model stick around via a neutraled-out sole unit underfoot and cream open mesh, the topmost overlays pivot into more lush tones. To both bring some vibrant flair and emphasize the warmer end of the color wheel, flashes of neon orange crop up with the branding touches at the heel counter and very rear of the shoe.
