The rise of running as both a hobby and full-fledged personality has had a major impact on performance footwear. Brands are now expected to deliver shoes that look and feel every bit as good as they perform, with some of the strongest bridges between function and culture coming via collabs with names outside the traditional running space.
New Balance’s latest effort comes through trusted partner Aimé Leon Dore, a name that sits near the top of the Boston brand’s depth chart across just about every footwear category. The two-piece running pack pairs the carbon-plated FuelCell SC Elite v5, New Balance’s latest premier race-day shoe, with the FuelCell Rebel v5 trainer. The former takes on a Nordic Green gradient with a black midsole, while the latter follows a similar formula in Atlantic Blue. Vibrant Orange and Alkaline Green accents distinguish each respective pair, while ALD’s floral logo appears throughout.
