As Nike, Jordan Brand and the Doernbecher Children's Hospital gear up for their annual slate of charity-focused releases, a big piece of this year's lineup has leaked: a new iteration of the Air Jordan 3. First announced by reputable early info purveyor brandon1an, the 2023 Air Jordan 3 "Doernbecher" will arrive in a multi-color scheme, with a high-numbered color code that indicates it'll be vibrant in nature. An official look at the sneaker has yet to surface, but it should be revealed on or around October 27 — the date of the 2023 Doernbecher benefit gallery at the Portland Art Museum — and it's likely to release in early September. The shoe's designer is not currently known either, but it's one of the six children pictured in the announcement graphic.Michael Jordan's third signature model already has a rich place in Doernbecher history, as then-11-year-old Cole Johansen, a cancer patient at the hospital, put his twist on it in 2010. His red-and-black creation featured custom insole graphics that read "COURAGE" and "STR3NGTH," plus a diamond pattern that, when observed closely, spelled out his initials, and also nodded to spaghetti and chocolate, his two favorite foods. It was so popular that it released again in 2013, and now goes for close to four figures on aftermarket stockists.
