For Nike and Jordan Brand alike, Mark Smith’s Laser Project was simply the thing of the mid-2000s. While 2005 is generally regarded as the official debut of laser-etched graphics on Jordan footwear, led by the Air Jordan 20 and the Jordan 4 “Laser” pack (returning next year, by the way), the story actually begins two years earlier in 2003, when Michael Jordan was gifted a one-of-one pair of laser-etched Air Jordan 3s for his 40th birthday.
That one-of-one is what inspires this 2026 release, albeit the laser graphics are far different this time around, complete with a slew of graphics inspired by MJ’s life, sneaker history, and personal interests. The collar, toe, and heel are all done in Palomino brown suede so as to match the laser engravings, joined by laser “Nike Air” branding on the heel and University Red Jumpman logos on the tongue.
