UP THERE and adidas have snuck up on us with another release of the Melbourne, a signature model for the Aussie retailer. This time, their sleek trainer comes in a simple Core Black build, available now.
The adidas City Series is a decades long project that aims to supply major global cities with their own signature sneaker. Right now, adidas is all in on the Tokyo, and other icons from the long-term program include London, München, Dublin, Los Angeles, New York, and many, many more. Back in January, Australian retailer UP THERE helped create their home cities first-ever signature model, the Melbourne.
Newly minted as a member of the adidas Consortium program, UP THERE took inspiration from a track spike originally crafted for the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games. This archival find directly influenced the addition of the suede collar lining and midfoot “biscuit” panel, with a two-layer rubber midsole nestled underneath. The original release for the Melbourne landed in a classic white and green mesh build, a perfect sneaker for hot Aussie Summer days.
This week, UP THERE is back for another release of their signature Melbourne trainer. The second drop of this vintage-inspired model is available exclusively via the retailer, and dropped earlier this morning. The new colorway takes inspiration from two sources, the self-proclaimed signature “shade” of Melbourne, as well as an archival pair of the Rome trainer dressed all in black and made for military use. The Melbourne arrives kitted out in a black full grain leather upper, with black suede detailing and a polished leather eyestay & Three Stripes. Outsoles are added in white, while gold adidas Melbourne branding completes the look.
