Tyrese Haliburton recently launched his debut signature sneaker with PUMA, the Hali 1. The model was designed in partnership with Salehe Bembury, and this week Hali has teased a special colorway of the model, celebrating the classic movie Love and Basketball.

Over the years, there have been a wealth of movie about basketball. While your mileage may vary on quality, there is almost always an emphasis on a love of the game, and sometimes, sneakers. Footwear has played a very important role in these films over the years, including Like Mike, Space Jam, White Men Can’t Jump, and more. However, only one comes to mind when you think about romance, and that is Love and Basketball. Released in 2000 and directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood in her directorial debut, the film follows two childhood friends whose shared passion for the game grows into a complex, lifelong romance.

This week, Tyrese Haliburton shared an early look at a special pair of his PUMA signature paying homage to Love and Basketball. While the Pacers guard is recovering from injury, he is still hard at work sharing early looks at new sneakers. The special pair’s white, navy blue, and gold color scheme is an apt fir for a Pacers look, but the tongues are a direct nod to the movie. The right shoe features the number 22 and the left has a 32, the numbers worn by the movie’s main characters, Quincy McCall and Monica Wright.

PUMA HALI 1 “LOVE AND BASKETBALL” RELEASE INFORMATION

PUMA has not yet announced their latest colorway of the Hali 1, though we’d hope to see this homage colorway arrive sometime during this year’s NBA season. Celebrating the classic 2000 film Love and Basketball, the simple white, blue, and yellow colorway is currently only in the possession of Tyrese Haliburton himself.
