The Nike SB team has been on a roll for the past few years with their modified versions of sneaker icons. After the success of the Air Max 95 this year, they are expected to follow up with the Air Force 1 in 2026, including this “Flax” colorway.
Over the years, plenty of classic Nike silhouettes have been adopted by the skate community, who seek out comfort and board feel in their footwear. The Air Jordan 1 and the Dunk are two of the original icons of basketball-turned-skate styles, both of which were eventually released in modified versions by the Nike SB team. In the past five years, the SB team has reactivated their process of adapting these classics, bringing us their versions of the Air Jordan 4 and the Air Max 95. Next year, they are set to add another iconic silhouette to the list, the Air Force 1.
With the exception of the AM95, every single silhouette SB modifies for skateboarding has been a former basketball sneaker. This is no coincidence, as both basketball players and skaters need to be as close to the ground as possible through their sneakers. The Air Force 1 has long been beloved by the skate community, and the SB team is likely fine tuning the inner workings of the shoe to better fit their sport. The shoe’s flat sole with plenty of traction will be great against grip tape, but currently we do not know any of the changes being made to the design. However, we have seen a handful of colors, adding another to the list today with the “Flax” style. Already an iconic AF1 look, the SB version colors the entire shoe in light brown, with a black branding accent at the heels.
