The NBA All-Star weekend is nearly here, one of the biggest weekends in sneakers. Nike always shows up with something special, and this year they have a wild new take on the Air Force 1, dressed in a “Metallic Copper” finish for the occasion.
The relationship between basketball and sneaker culture has been closely intertwined for decades. Nike is at the heart of this, thanks to many of their signature on-court sneakers becoming street icons after their performance debuts. The Air Jordan 1, Dunk, and Air Force are the “big three” prime example of this, making up the core identity of Nike’s retro sneaker offerings. The same relationship between basketball and street style is what makes the NBA All-Star Weekend so important to sneaker brands, who flock to the host city to show off upcoming special releases, performance shoes, and more.
Last year brought us the unveil of Nike’s GT Future and the return of the “Galaxy” Foams. We are not sure what to expect from the Swoosh this year regarding brand new sneakers, but we do have an early look at a special-edition Air Force 1 releasing for the weekend. This special pair appears to take some level of inspiration from their Louis Vuitton Air Forces, featuring an all-over pattern of four-pointed stars embossed into the upper. The shoe is constructed from a material similar to the GT Future or Foamposite, a plastic-like textile colored here in a shimmering Metallic Copper color. The shoes feature multiple nods to Los Angeles through branding, a triangular heel badge, and white leather Swooshes to complete the look.
