Nike’s strategy of re-issuing every old piece of equipment in its archive as contemporary women’s fashion lifestyle sneakers continues, but there’s a little more weight to this one. The Nike Moon Shoe, which is known as the first-ever sneaker in the brand’s history, is back on shelves for the first time in over a half-century. This piece of sneaker history won’t be a readily available pair at retailers worldwide, but rather in the form of a collaboration with French designer Jacquemus.
Earning its nickname for the distinctive footprints left by the traction bottoms, the Moon Shoe first teased its return earlier this year when the sneaker appeared on the runway for the French design house. The same sock-like construction with nylon exteriors are back, but with the JACQUEMUS logo planted on the tongue label and pressed into the suede heel counter. Riveting.
In addition to being an integral part of Nike history, the Moon Shoe gained notoriety for being a beast at auction as an original pair from 1971 sold for $437,500 at high-end luxury auction house Sotheby’s.
Three colorway options are expected to release, two of which popped up for sale at multi-brand retailer net-a-porter (you can see what sizes are available in our Where To Buy section below. A global release date is currently unknown.

What is the Nike Moon Shoe?
The Nike Moon Shoe is the first-ever sneaker in Nike history. It originally debuted in 1971 and was given the Moon Shoe nickname for the astronaut-like print left by the shoe’s traction. In 2025, Nike brought the Moon Shoe back to stores for the first time; the debut releases were in collaboration with French fashion label Jacquemus, with future releases expected.
