The Air Jordan 1 Low “Sashiko” Emulates Traditional Japanese Craftsmanship

The Swoosh has long had a fascination with Japan, often joining in their traditions and emulating much of their traditional craft. Even Jordan Brand is immersing themselves in the country’s culture, darning the Air Jordan 1 Low with Sashiko-styled stitching.

Likely informed by the Japanese concept of Wabi Sabi — a world view centered on finding the beauty in imperfection — the Air Jordan 1 Low “Sashiko” features distressing and wear throughout much of its construction. Each overlay, whose denim fabric is covered almost entirely in decorative stitching, is frayed along its edge, complementing the aged feel of the midsole just below. The Swoosh and base are much more pristine by comparison, balancing out the colorway in their black tumbled leathers and white canvas, respectively.

Enjoy a closer look at the Air Jordan 1 Low “Sashiko” via the retailer imagery ahead. A release is likely coming up soon, so sit tight and stay tuned for further updates.

In other news, a first look at the Nike Kobe 8 Protro “Triple White” was just revealed.
