Following pairs by Futura, Jonas Wood, and Nina Chanel Abney, Salehe Bembury’s “Art Friends Thumbs Up Good Job” series with Crocs is back in the headlines thanks to pop surrealism master Kenny Scharf, set to release his take on Bembury’s signature Pollex Clog in short order.
Scharf was a pivotal part of the 1980s East Village art movement in New York, developing a distinct personal signature across paintings and sculpture. He counts Andy Warhol as a mentor, and names like Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring as contemporaries, with whom he helped pioneer contemporary street art.
The New York-based muralist, painter, sculptor, and installation artist checks in with an abstract yellow and blue backdrop and three-dimensional smiley face graphics on each foot. Blue banana peel–like shapes appear on yellow fabric straps, while the interior comes in white with Scharf’s signature on the footbed. As with much of the artist’s studio work, the final product is open to interpretation.
The Kenny Scharf x Crocs Pollex Clog releases exclusively through salehebembury.com on November 14th at 9:00 AM PT. Only 1,000 units will be available. Based on past “Art Friends” drops, the Clog will likely retail for $95. See detailed images and notes from Scharf about the collab below.
