In case you haven’t heard, Pokemon is celebrating their 30th anniversary, but there’s been precious few intersections with footwear as part of the scheduled programming. Though plenty crossovers like a rangy LEGO collection and of course, bread and butter announcements like new games and merchandise have populated the newswire for hardcore fans, finally a full-throated trek into our neck of the woods is here, as PUMA and Pokemon unveil their complete offerings.
Astute readers will clock that via Pikachu’s All-Pro NITRO 2, we already had some indication that the Big Cat and world’s highest grossing media franchises were
enmeshed in some way. However, what they’ve just let loose goes far beyond the bounds of just a single colorway. Here we have four distinct lifestyle issues, bringing everlasting mascot Pikachu to the Fade NITRO, newer franchise face Mimikyu to the Inverse, and Eeveelutions Espeon and Umbreon to the Mostro and Fade Nitro, respectively. The choice of these four reflects an overall “DAY & NIGHT” concept, easily understood with the Eeveelutions for longtime franchise fans and more coyly adapted with their counterparts.
While Pikachu and Umbreon’s take are simplest, pinning inverse black and yellow colorways on the chunky lifestyle, Mimkyu and Espeon’s showcase a serious level of detail, utilizing beige canvas and pink shaggy suede for true-to-screen adaptations of the two characters. That “if you know you know” level of detail permeates this set from start to finish; each shoe wears respective type logos from the TCG, National Dex numbers sit on the packaging, and metal charms bring each face to the fore.
The Pokemon x PUMA collection drops in full on April 2nd, accompanied by a range of accessories and apparel. Catch detailed images below and keep our coverage close for direct pick-up links upon arrival.
