Nike SB is going strong with their special releases of the Dunk Low, despite Nike’s mainline versions slowing down over the past year. This week, we have an early look at a new pair of the SB version inspired by Thai cuisine, featuring a “Som Tum” theme.
Nike SB’s version of the Dunk Low has been a canvas for a huge variety of projects since its introduction in the early 2000s. The model has been iterated on by dozens of different professional skaters, musicians, artists, and more over its twenty-plus year run, as well as playing host to some of the SB team’s own in-house special releases. Just this year we had special pairs in “Rodeo” and “Krampus“, with more on the way for 2026 like the “Muni” pairs as an ode to San Francisco’s public transit.
This week, another in-house special project surfaced, which will take the SB Dunk on a culinary exploration of Thailand. The exact story behind this pair has not bene shared quite yet, but details on each shoe give us enough to make an educated guess. One of the inner tongue labels features a dish that looks suspiciously like Som Tum, or papaya salad, while the other features a bowl of rice. As for the rest of the shoe, the base layers come in a woven textile while overlays are applied in suede, pressed with a pattern to also resemble woven materials. All of this is held together with bold red stitching and laces, while the silver metallic heels say Nike in Thai script.
