Nike’s Air Max Sunder debuted in 1999 as a forward-thinking cross-training shoe that pushed both design and functionality. Known for its zip-up neoprene shroud, the Sunder delivered a futuristic, almost techwear aesthetic years before that term became mainstream. Underneath, visible Air cushioning and a supportive fit made it practical for performance, while its bold colorways stood out on shelves. Though short-lived at retail, the model developed a cult following. Fast forward to 2024, and Nike issued their first-ever retro to celebrate the model’s 25th anniversary.

The return of the Sunder in 2024 was an important retro for Nike, reviving a semi-forgotten model twenty-five years later. The Swoosh has tested the shoe’s modern viability with a CdG collaboration, before unleashing dozens of fresh styles over the last two years. Luckily, for fans of the unique runner, more new colors are coming in 2026. This week, we have an early look at another gradient color scheme for the retro Air Max, pitting the shoe in an “Orange Trance” tone. This shade of orange is most similar to a pastel or creamsicle shade, which fades into a dark Vintage Green shade at the heels. The rest of the shoe is framed in black, with Vintage Green making another appearance for the TPU ventilation panels.

Nike’s latest color scheme for their Air Max Sunder retro does not have a release date yet, but is expected to land sometime in Spring 2026. The new look features another gradient coloring, based in “Orange Trance” at the toes and paired with Vintage Green as a secondary color. Pairs will be available from both Nike and select retailers for the usual $180.
