New Balance’s Tokyo Design Studio Has New MT10 Styles Coming Soon

The Tokyo Design Studio line (TDS) is basically the cool, experimental off-shoot of New Balance. Based in Tokyo but pulling in design insights from Boston too, TDS works on special projects that merge Japanese craftsmanship with NB’s technical heritage. The line was launched back in 2019, when New Balance had some newfound popularity and were beginning to roll out some of their older models, repurposed for lifestyle wear. Early releases from TDS included the RC1300, and the three-in-one Niobium boot, and have continued with regular releases like the 610S trail shoe.

This week, we have an official look at the next release from New Balance TDS, which features the minimal MT10 slip-on. The model originally released in 2011, but returned this year through an Aimé Leon Dore release that remodeled the silhouette with inspiration from water shoes. Now, TDS has readied their take on the model for an upcoming drop. Arriving in two colorways, the model takes on a more trail-ready look, pairing a single-piece suede upper with a rugged raped mudguard. Color options are either Raw Leather brown, or a bright Navy blue shade, with Black Cement making up the rest of the look. Both styles feature a simple toggle lacing system, and are equipped with Vibram soles for all kinds of terrain.
