The 992’s return to New Balance’s Made in USA line has been a blessing for fans over the last year. The model appears to be sticking around for the foreseeable future, with fresh styles like this “Driftwood Snake” edition coming soon.

The New Balance 992 first arrived in 2006 as part of NB’s 100th-anniversary celebration, anchoring the brand’s premium “99X” series with sophisticated materials and tech. Known for its soft pig-skin suede/mesh upper, the 992 quietly became a staple of everyday style, famously adopted by tech icon Steve Jobs. After being discontinued around 2010, the model resurged in 2020 with re-issues and high-profile collabs from WTAPS and JJJJound, and has now fallen under the purview of the Made in USA line. This week, the latest addition to the MiUSA series has crossed our feeds, showing off a special pair of the 992 releasing later this month. The silhouette takes on a brown color scheme, mixing shades of Driftwood, Incense, and Rich Oak across its mixed material upper. However, the standout feature of this pair is the textured outer layers, which get a snakeskin-like scale pattern across the suede panels.

New Balance’s next wave of releases from the Made in USA line have not been formally announced yet, but are set to release sometime in December 2025. The 992 returns with a new “Driftwood” colorway for this batch, and sporting a snakeskin texture across its outer layers. Pairs will be available from both NB and select retailers, expected to be priced at $220.
