Next year, Jordan Brand is looking to evoke nostalgia by bringing back the iconic “face” shoe-box of the early 2000s era. Now, they’re upping the ante by bringing back the Jordan retro card for the first time, continuing a tradition that was discontinued nearly fifteen years ago.

The rich stories, moments, and cultural milestones behind every Air Jordan have always fueled the success of the Retro line. As early as 1994 with the Air Jordan 1–the first-ever retro release–Nike made it a point to re-educate fans of the key details of the shoe and its design backstory through these post-card inserts.

From beginning in 1994 with the Air Jordan 1 and continuing in 1999 and well into the late 2000s, every pair of Air Jordans came with a double-sided postcard featuring a brief history of the shoe alongside an iconic snapshot from its era. These “Retro Cards” became collector’s items that were overlooked by some, but obsessively chased by others.

With Jordan Brand set to bring Retro Cards back in 2026, the Jumpman is clearly attempting to revitalize a specific era in brand history through select Retro drops next year. Whether or not the content of the cards will be updated or kept the same is still unconfirmed, but a mix of both new and original is likely expected.
