Iconic G-Shock Collaborations: 40th Anniversary Edition

In celebration of the FEATURE x G-Shock collaboration and the 40th anniversary of G-Shock, let’s take things back in time to review some of the watch brand’s favorite and most memorable partnerships. G-Shock is a line of watches established in 1983 by Kikuo Ibe. The idea came to Ibe when he accidentally broke a pocket watch his father had given him. This unfortunate event caused Ibe to set out to create an indestructible watch. When making the first G-Shock, he ensured that it passed the triple 10 philosophy; water-resistant to 10bar, minimum 10-year battery life, and could survive a 10-meter drop. The initial designs were primarily designed for sports, military, and outdoor activities, but have since grown into a widely-recognizable fashion accessory. The design crosses the line between military wear and streetwear and has grown to become a cultural phenomenon over the decades. G-Shock has teamed up with numerous artists, celebrities, and brands to further solidify its impact on fashion. Here is a review of some of the brand’s most iconic collaborations.  G-SHOCK X NASA    NASA and G-Shock have collaborated on multiple collections, the latest being in April of 2021. The iteration of the DW5600 was designed to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the first Space Transportation System mission, commonly known as the 'Space Shuttle.' The glaring aesthetic change is that the DW5600NASA21 had a black case, which mimics the Space Shuttle's stark colorway.     G-SHOCK X BAPE 25TH ANNIVERSARY   To celebrate the BAPE’s 25th anniversary, the pair teamed up on an exclusive model taking design cues from G-SHOCK’s GA-110 silhouette. The watch was wrapped in the signature BAPE camo print and was released in October of 2018.     G-SHOCK X MEDICOM TOY   In 2013, Medicom Toy and G-Shock collaborated on an exclusive set of watches that were housed in a Bearbrick head. The stark white resin design and colorful details made for an eye-catching collab.      FEATURE X G-SHOCK ‘24HRS IN LAS VEGAS’   G-Shock's latest collection with FEATURE is in celebration of G-Shock’s 40th anniversary. This watch style is inspired by the city where FEATURE was founded. The limited edition watch is housed in a custom box and in available at all FEATURE retail locations.
