Typically, the start of a new signature shoe series brings enough energy to the table on its own merits. However, adidas is clearly aiming to begin the adidas Anthony Edwards 3 chapter with a bang. Beyond the shoe itself and the lingering freshness of the Believe That 1, the AE3 Mule and an ongoing Anthony Edwards Superstar project are making this a wall-to-wall celebration of Ant.
Presumably, adidas’ lifestyle focus will soon shift to the adidas Stan Smith, but this Anthony Edwards Superstar series gives the brand a chance to attach a true A-lister to the shelltoe anew. As anyone tapped in to the impending AE3 could identify, this version takes the same shade as the hoops shoe’s debut colorway, something of a triple entendre between his Minnesota digs, “ice in his veins” on-court attitude, and his trademark charisma. Beyond the overwhelmingly chilly palette shown here, from the light blue body to the shimmering silver trim, this variation sets itself apart from general release fare by smoothing the shell toe, leaving it in glossy semi-translucent rubber to distinguish Edwards’ touch.
