Although fresh, the 2027 lineup from Jordan Brand is starting to heat up. So far, we have a handful of original colorways returning, and adding to the list of the iconic “White Cement” Air Jordan 3.
The Air Jordan 3 holds a unique place in sneaker history. Designed by Tinker Hatfield, the model introduced the visible Air unit on a Jordan signature shoe and debuted the now-iconic Jumpman logo. It also brought elephant print to the table, a design element that still separates the 3 from everything else in the lineup.
Air Jordan 3 White Cement History
The iconic colorway was first released in 1988 and is one of four original colorways. Michael Jordan wore the “White Cement” to win the 1988 NBA Slam Dunk Contest, and it also helped convince him to stay with Nike. MJ dunked from the free throw line, earning a perfect 50 points.
The first retro launched in 1994. However, the sneakers sat on shelves and would go on sale. In 2003, we saw the second retro release, but this time it featured a Jumpman instead of Nike Air. Two years later, in 2013, Jordan Brand released the shoes again, calling them the Air Jordan 3 Retro 88, and they celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the release and the Slam Dunk Contest.
2018 brought us two iterations of the “White Cement” Jordan 3. One pair was the AJ 3 JTH, a collaboration between Justin Timberlake and Tinker Hatfield. This iteration featured a Swoosh on the panels and Nike embroidered on the inner ankle. The second launch was dubbed “Free Throw Line” and celebrated the 30th Anniversary of the Slam Dunk Contest. The final launch in 2023 was the “White Cement Reimagined” iteration.
2027 Details
This Air Jordan 3 is expected to return to its original roots. The pair features a White leather upper with Cement Grey elephant-print overlays on the toe and heel. Black and Fire Red accents land on the eyelets, tongue, and midsole, giving the shoe its classic contrast. The heel is expected to feature Nike Air branding, a detail that collectors always pay attention to in OG releases.
Unlike some recent versions that experiment with aging effects or altered materials, this release is expected to stay close to the original 1988 build. However, this has not yet been confirmed.
