The partnership between Aimé Leon Dore and New Balance has become one of modern sneaker culture’s most influential collaborations, defined by its consistent rollout of exclusive SMU (Special Make-Up) styles tied to seasonal apparel collections. Rather than standalone launches, ALD integrates models like the 550, 650, 860v2, and 993 directly into its broader lifestyle storytelling, aligning their footwear offerings with campaign visuals. These SMUs often feature refined color palettes, premium materials, and subtle branding, reinforcing ALD’s nostalgic sportswear aesthetic.

This week, ALD has teased their next projects with New Balance through a promotional video for their Uniform apparel collection. In the video, they show clear shots of two different silhouettes, the 1300 and 471, the latter of which is a more recent addition to the NB catalog. Borrowing from some of their previous colors and styling, the 471 is dressed in a simple neutral look, featuring cream white paneling with rich forest green accents. The 1300 is just a touch more vibrant, cast in a dark navy blue suede and mesh build with with accents and a pop of bright yellow at the heels.
