Both come dressed in Brain Dead’s signature mix of textured suede, contrasting color blocking, and off kilter detailing.

adidas has owned Five Ten since 2011, though the line has largely stayed outside the mainstream adidas sneaker conversation. Five Ten built its name on climbing footwear and a high grip rubber compound, and that technical rubber still anchors both models in this pack, especially the Niad. The project follows Brain Dead’s earlier adidas Bowling Shoe collaboration, continuing a partnership that keeps pulling from corners of the adidas archive most sneaker fans have not seen before.

The Brain Dead x adidas Five Ten Guide Tennie Approach and Niad Design

The Guide Tennie Approach is the more wearable of the two for daily rotation. It sits on a flat, flexible sole with honeycomb cutouts worked into the side panels, while a hairy suede upper and contrasting color placement break up a shape that still reads clearly as an approach shoe.

The Niad stays closer to a traditional climbing shoe. Its upper is slimmer and closer fitting, and a heavy rubber wrap covers much of the lower half for a more technical look than the Guide Tennie Approach. Brain Dead worked its suede and color choices into that existing shape rather than reshaping the silhouette.
