adidas Celebrates the ZX 8000 Designers With a “JC & MT” Pack

adidas has been on a hot streak with their ZX 8000 in recent months, dropping a number of special pairs. This week, the Consortium team is paying homage to the shoe’s designers with a special release, dubbed the JC & MT pack.

In 1989, adidas released the ZX 8000, a refreshed take on the line that began earlier in the ’80s. The updates model was an immediate hit, spawning a much larger ZX franchise and breathing new life into the Three Stripes running offerings. The 8K was designed by Jacques Chassaing and Markus Thaler, two longtime adidas creatives who created the shoe for long-distance training. The model incorporated breathable mesh and durable overlays, while also making use of adidas’ Torsion system in the sole, providing extra stability in the midfoot.

The ZX 8000 was quickly adopted by early sneakerheads, thanks to its vibrant colorways and quintessentially ’80s design. The model has since transitioned from performance running to lifestyle stale, popping up for another retro run every few years. In 2008, adidas launched the a-ZX series, tasking 22 Consortium retailers with bringing their own unique designs to the retro runner. In addition to those release, adidas created a limited edition pair constructed with invisible seams, meant to marry modern design and manufacturing practices with the ’80s silhouette. That pair was extremely limited, but returns this year in its original yellow colorway for the new “JC & MT” pack.

The new JC & MT pack celebrates the shoe’s original designers, who’s portraits covered the tongues on the original 2008 seamless pair. This time around, the bold yellow look is paired with a riff on the OG “Aqua” color scheme, covering the silhouette in a “Blue Glow” shade with dark purple accents and a yellow midsole. This celebratory release comes from the Consortium team, meaning high quality materials and a remarkable attention to details; a collector’s dream.
