A Friends & Family Nike SB Air Force 1 Has Appeared

We’re now one step closer to the debut of the Nike SB Air Force 1, a skateable version of Nike’s most iconic silhouette and the latest addition to a growing list of modern crossovers. Nike SB is currently hosting a summit for skaters and shop owners at its headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, and greeting guests as they arrive is this pink Friends & Family colorway.

Shown here via images posted by @nikesbornothing by way of Ithaca’s Homegrown Skateshop, the sneaker features a pink all-suede upper built atop a white midsole and light gum brown outsole. But the colorway isn’t the story here. As will be the case until skaters have a chance to get proper wear tests in, we’re continuing to focus on the model’s skate modifications. The most apparent is a thick padded tongue akin to that of the Nike SB Dunk, providing better cushioning. More important, perhaps, is the midsole, which features a thinner forefoot for improved flexibility and board feel. The SB Air Force 1 retains its namesake’s traction pattern, but the grooves are noticeably deeper than those of the standard version. As for the finer touches, there’s also a Nike SB tag on the tongue, rope laces, and a new gold lace dubrae reading “SB-1.” While not unique to the Nike SB version, the decision to go all-suede is clearly made with skating in mind as well, a preferred material among skaters for its flexibility and grip.
