In both terms of the actual shoe and the palace intrigue behind its creation, the Tom Sachs x Nike Mars Yard 3.0 has been a massive storyline throughout 2025, especially given that the renewal of his and the Swoosh’s relationship was set in stone before the year even began. We’ve known that the tangible shoe would be on deck come September since Q1, and finally, the wait is almost over.

Bearing the same neutral overall palette and trademark red/wheat split, the shoe is in many ways what it says on the tin, an evolution of the utilitarian designs that came about in 2012 and 2017. Ever detail-oriented, a previous checkpoint in this shoe’s rollout saw Sachs offer an extremely up-close breakdown of the shoe’s hardware notes, including the open mesh polyester, newly translucent TPU heel clip, added toe-cap, and screen-printed Swoosh, among many other tooling updates.

Of course, though this has become a tometic series in sneakers since the 1.0, the elephant in the room throughout this particular shoe’s rollout has been the hostile work environment allegations that prompted Nike to suspend their ties with the designer in 2023. In their announcement earlier in 2025, the Swoosh acknowledged the overall saga, reporting that “Tom has demonstrated and recommitted to fostering a culture of respect and inclusivity.” An international SNKRS listing brings only the second official reference:

For one final narrative surrounding this launch, we come to the Tom Sachs ISRU app. On the platform, participants were prompted to log daily challenges like creating something before opening their phone, reading before bed, or shooting free throws. Despite the “Summer Camp” program lasting through the summer, it remains a bit opaque in how it’ll come into play. Some retailers that are carrying stock of the Nike Mars Yard 3.0 have made allusions to ISRU in queueing up their drops, but it remains unclear how/if the app will factor into said launches. Rather than needing to provide your leadership log, it’s possible that these stores are simply promoting the app itself.
